Climate Change Monitoring Group (CCMG) plans to give training to residents of areas hard hit by Cyclone Nargis in May last year. The training will be conducted in simple terms so that the trainees an understand easily, a CCMG official said.
“After falling victim to Nargis, the local people have taken a great interest in natural disasters. There are four kinds: small-scale storm, tropical storm, cyclone and supercyclone. They want to know the extent of the these disasters. Teaching will be simple without the use of terms such as Fahrenheit, latitude and longitude. When asked their desire, they willingly expressed their wish. They also want the instructors to be professional,” the official said.
CCMG toured villages in Labutta, Pyapon and Bogale townships from September 9 to 22, and studied the tracks of the cyclone and discussed natural disasters with the local people.
CCMG is now assessing their findings and seeking donors and professionals in the meteorology.
