ASEAN ENERGY AWARD 2009: Myanmar wins first prize for energy paper

Myanmar won the first prize of the ASEAN Energy Award 2009 in the replenishing energy sector with its paper on Ma Mya Dam.
The paper, compiled by the Irrigation Department, is on generators for small-scale electricity production installed at the dam. Other contestants included the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and other ASEAN members.
The dam has been built to irrigate 10,000 acres of farmland, other purpose being prevention of floods. The advantage is the contrivance of small machines for generation of electricity that are easy to move and maintain and costs less.  Another advantage is that they contribute to reducing the harm to the natural environment. Because they substitute the use of candles and diesel oil, emission of 325.32 tons of carbon dioxide will be cut every year.
The paper was sent to ASEAN Center for Energy in Indonesia on May 11, 2009.
