As a five-year project on food security and uplifting social standard in Myanmar for 100 million US dollars has been allocated to Myanmar, local non-governmental organizations are competing with international organizations to secure the project.
Altogether 20 million dollars will be spent on the first-year project for the cyclone-hit Delta areas. The closing date for submission of proposals was December 3.
Five local NGOs—Mingala Myanmar, Searchers Myanmar, TWA (Tun Win Aung) Rural Service, RCA (Rakhine Coastal Associations) and Myitta Mon—collectively submitted a proposal.
The project for delta area will cover 1 year only and that for other areas, 3 years. The proposal for the tropical zone, Shan State, Rakhine State and Kachin State will be submitted on January 18, 2010 at the latest.
